What do air sealing services fix in an El Paso house?
Air sealing services in El Paso close the gaps where air slips into and out of your house, mostly through the attic floor and the openings in it. Cutting that leakage is one of the most cost-effective ways to lower heating and cooling costs, and it also makes rooms more comfortable, helps the house last and keeps the indoor air healthier.
Most people call because an upstairs room won't stay cool or the whole house feels drafty, and the gaps behind it are usually out of sight in the attic. What moves the price is how much old insulation covers the attic floor, how many pipes, wires and lights pass through it and how easy the attic is to get into and work in. What moves the schedule is any repair that has to come first, like a roof leak or a vent blowing moist air into the attic, because sealing over those only hides them. Rules differ between El Paso, the county areas and the New Mexico cities, so I check your address with the right office, and when a permit applies we take care of the application and the inspections. Your written estimate lays all of that out, step by step.
Why El Paso homeowners call Wraptight for air sealing
I look at every job myself
I come out to look at every job and write the estimate myself. Our installers do the sealing, and I check their work before anyone leaves your house.
Licensed and insured for attic work
We're licensed and insured, which is worth asking any crew about before they're crawling over your ceilings. Ask me about it at the estimate and I'll show you.
Started in El Paso in 2023
I learned this trade on a municipal crew keeping city buildings sealed, where every job was written up and checked before sign-off. I brought that same habit to El Paso homes in 2023.
On air sealing, order matters most. Repairs come first, then the sealing, then any insulation. Call or send us a note and I'll come see what your attic needs.
How our air sealing service works
I ask about every gas or oil appliance in the house first, and I'll tell you to have its venting checked before we seal and again after. Then our crew handles anything the estimate lists as a repair to come first. Next comes the sealing itself, and we spend most of our time where the leaks that matter usually are, buried under old insulation and around pipes, wires, light fixtures and the attic hatch, using caulk for small cracks, foam for bigger gaps and solid blocking over the large openings. Only after the attic floor is sealed does any new insulation go down, because insulation laid over an open gap just has a draft running through it.
Some houses are better served by foam that seals and insulates in one pass. Closed-cell foam insulation, a dense foam that also blocks moisture, costs more than sealing the gaps and topping up loose fill, so I usually recommend it only where the ductwork runs through the attic. If your house has a basement, the band where its walls meet the floor framing leaks too, and we can seal that as part of basement insulation.
Sealing on its own
This suits a house with a decent layer of clean insulation that still feels drafty. We work under and around what's already there and leave it in place once the gaps are closed.
Sealing before new insulation
This suits an attic that's thin or due for a top-up, because the floor is easiest to reach before new material covers it. We seal first, then add attic insulation over the closed gaps.
How can you tell your house is leaking air?
Drafts near outlets and the hatch
You feel moving air at outlets, baseboards or around the attic hatch. That's usually a gap into the attic or walls, and every month it stays open your heating and cooling work harder.
Hot upstairs or over the garage
The upstairs or the room over the garage stays hotter or colder than the rest. Leaks around that room's ceiling are a common cause, and changing the thermostat won't fix them.
Dust along the ceiling
Fine dust keeps settling in rooms right under the attic, often along ceiling edges and vents. Air is pulling through gaps in the ceiling and bringing attic dust down with it until they're closed.
A power bill that climbs
The bill creeps up though nothing at home has changed. Air you paid to heat or cool is often slipping out, and you keep paying for it until the leaks are sealed.
What happens after you call about air sealing?
Call and book the visit
Call (915) 265-1142 or use the form, and we'll set a time for my visit. I go through the attic, crawl space or walls and write an estimate listing each step.
Our crew works the list
Our installers work from that written list, starting with any repair it flags to come first. If a permit applies, the application is in before that work starts.
Walk the finished attic together
I check the installers' work, then walk it with you before we leave. If you have gas or oil appliances, this is when to have the after-sealing venting check done.
Air sealing questions we hear
These are the questions people ask me most often about air sealing in El Paso. If your house has something different going on, call or send a note and I'll answer it for your job.
How much does air sealing cost in El Paso?
I give you a written price after I've seen your attic, because the cost turns on what's up there more than on the size of the house. Sealing on its own usually runs less than a job that also pulls out soaked or dirty insulation or adds a new layer. The estimate lists each step, so you can see what you're paying for.
What is the best way to seal air leaks myself?
Start with the obvious gaps you can reach, like cracks around door frames, because that's where do-it-yourself sealing works well. Small, hard-to-find leaks are a different matter, especially in an attic under layers of insulation, and that's the part worth hiring out.
How do I find hidden air leaks in my house?
Professionals find hidden leaks with tools like a blower door test, a large fan set in a doorway that pulls air out so the leaks show, and a thermal camera that picks up the spots where outside air gets in. It's fair to ask any crew which method they'll use on your house before you hire them.
Is air sealing safe if I have a gas furnace or water heater?
Yes, as long as the appliances get tested, because in some cases sealing a house can make a gas or oil appliance send its exhaust back inside instead of up the vent. ENERGY STAR suggests having a home performance contractor test the venting before and after sealing, which is why I ask about those appliances at the estimate.
Where do I start with a building permit in El Paso?
Start at the city's One Stop Shop, which takes building permit applications and puts permitting and land development help in one place. The city requires a permit to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move or demolish a building, so bring any question about whether your job counts there. On our jobs, I check that before we start.
What should be fixed before air sealing an attic?
Wet insulation from a leaky roof, moldy or rotted rafters, and kitchen, bath or dryer vents that blow moist air into the attic should all be fixed first, along with little or no attic ventilation or an attic too cramped to work in. In a house built before 1930, knob-and-tube wiring touching insulation is a fire risk and gets corrected first too. I note any of these at the estimate so the repair is on the list before the sealing.
